Got my permit!!!

Yesterday I was surprised to get my concealed carry permit in the mail from the state of FL. With the backlog in apps they were telling me not to expect it til midsummer. I'm so psyched. :D

This is the way I feel. If I feel the need to carry, I carry.
Let the chips fall where they may.

In Tennessee at least, if caught carrying a weapon it's only a misdemeanor.
Big deal.. throw a few dollars at a misdemeanor and it goes away.

Would you be exited to get a "free speech permit" to speak your mind?
Would you be exited to get an "assembly permit" to lawfully assemble?
Would you be exited to get a "religion permit" to worship the way you wanted?

This is another reason I'll never get a permit to do what I don't need a permit to do... You guys with permits and class III's are gonna be the very first ones to get that knock on the door.

Just carry the damn things already, screw em'.

Playing their little unconstitutional "permit game" only legitimizes it.

Congrats, LA. I understand Texas is backed up on paperwork as well, so I guess I'll have a wait when I renew this year.

Well, I agree with you on prinicple, but I feel that telling someone to carry without a permit is stunningly foolish advice. If you get bagged in Florida carrying without a CCW, the fact of the matter is thus;
A) You will get arrested immediately. Look up "immediately" in the dictionary.
B) You will have your chance to tell your constitutional thoughts to the Judge.
C) Regardless of what you think, the Florida Legislature feels differently, and thus, the Judge is bound to act within the confines of the law. So The judge will quite quickly find you "guilty as charged", especially since you will need to admit to owning and carrying a firearm in order to make your constitutional point to the judge.
D) You will pay a fine, and/or you may go to jail. Well, maybe, if you get a really really cool judge like Judge Rainwater up in Brevard County, you will be let off with a stern admonishment from the court.
E) You will be prevented from legally carrying, and possibly even owning, a firearm in the State of FLorida thereafter.

This is 2008, not 1968. Times change. As I said, I agree with you in principle...

Good, bad, or indifferent, THAT IS REALITY. The SMART guy, IMHO, will go and get TWO guns. One to give up in the event of a firearms confiscation, and one to... not give up. If gun #2 is purchased private sale, then there is no record of it's current owner.

Just my thoughts...

...in Florida.

Check your states laws before daring to exercise Constitutional rights. If you're on the left coast, in Florida, or above the Mason-Dixon line, don't bother.

Thanks, WM. I agree with everything you have said. While I would have been thrilled to do without a permit altogether, the reality is as a single parent I don't need to go to jail if I can avoid it. Losing my professional license and employability due to an arrest is probably not prudent at this stage either. It is much easier to tell gov't to pound sand when one is only responsible for oneself. That day is getting closer for me.

For those who critisize those who get a permit I wonder if you pay taxes, and have driver's licenses?

Again, I agree with you whole heartedly in principle, but what is the choice when 4 (pick a law enforcement agency) arrive to remove said handgun? A shootout? The ensconced homeowner (and his family) will lose. No question about it. As soon as said ensconced homeowner is obviously a PDC (potentially dangerous citizen), standard practice is to withdraw to a safe distance, and wait for re-inforcements. Ok, now it is 20 to one, not including your wife and children. The homeowner WILL LOSE. There is no question about it. Ya gotta come out sometime. It is that easy. It really is. Plus the police who will be telling the media how you are endangering your children by not surrendering. The homeowner is now the badguy.
BELIEVE ME when I say I am VERY MUCH a constitutional rights guy; ever since taking a frosh class in basic constitutional law. I also, however, am a realist.
Think of this: The day after a gun grab is publisized, there will be a rash of break-ins of people stealing guns. Your house will probably be broken into and your firearms stolen, and you would naturally report them as stolen. Any search of your house would reveal no firearms in evidence. *shrug* If you have ever seen a modern SWAT team in action, HEARD the flashbangs and automatic weapons fire, SMELLED the cloud of burnt powder from five 9mm HK94's firing, IN PERSON, you would see my position.
Again, I wish to emphasize that I agree with you in principle; but until enough people bitch (can I say "bitch here?") to the Legislature and get the laws changed, reality will remain what it is...
Respectfully,
-WM

Oh tell me you did not just say that! *laugh* I think I am GG have LOTS to say bout that, but this is the wrong forum for it... This is the gun forum.
You have just opened the can-o-worms that speaks directly to the constitutionally garanteed right to travel as well as the "unapportioned tax is constitutionally prohibited" issue. I will guess that GG and I share similar views... "at least in principle". :)

Not knowing anything about you; may I ask if you have taken any firearms training?
I feel, and I think many others here also feel lthe same, that along with the constitutionally garanteed RIGHT to own and bear, there is a MORAL RESPONSIBILITY when owning firearms. Part of that is knowing how to safely store, handle, and operate a firearm, as well as learning when is appropriate time to utilise said firearm.

That was my point. That I was chastised by another poster for getting a permit for something that is guaranteed by the constitution. I was merely stating that most of us on this forum have grudgingly "obeyed" the unconstitutional laws of our country in other ways such as paying taxes or submitting to drivers licenses. I don't see how one is much different than the other. Not trying to get off topic at all.

Depends on who you buy from, some people on this board are in favor of Government Tyranny, by collecting the paperwork needed for FEMA or HL Security to hunt out and find anyone trying to secretly practice the second amendment.

Im not the type of person who would deny anyone of their right to carry, But people who throw a party about it, is kinda Dale Gribblish

Why did you ask permission to execute a fundamental, God-given right, secured by Supreme Law?

What will you do if your permit is revoked?

It wasn't my intention to chastise you, sorry.

"Carry permits" are a sore spot with me, and many others here at GIM.

I, like you, am just tired of all the anti-constitutional crap we're forced to eat... the daily trampling of our God-given civil rights.

Permission from the state to do what we've already been able to do for 230 years is just the latest rung in the tyranny ladder to hell.

This is my line in the sand.
I refuse to comply.
I will deal with the consequenses of the state when and if I have to.

I can afford a good lawyer, to hell with em'.

I'm nearing the end of my damn rope. Maybe some of you just have longer ropes.

I agree with you there. I plan on working out my anger at the whole situation this weekend at the gun range.:D
